How to Get your Toddler to Eat Vegetables

eating vegetables2

My son is at that age where he’s starting to push away his vegetables. Oh the joy! He was doing so well!! Now more vegetables land on the floor than in his mouth.

While I am not an expert, and maybe you have far more ideas for me, I thought I’d share some things that have worked for me.

Eat Them Yourself

If your kid is anything like mine, he wants what’s on YOUR plate. Forget that his plate might have the same thing.  It is simply more delicious coming from your plate. Even when I have a plateful of salad (which Gavin definitely doesn’t like) he will still ask for some. I willingly give it to him. Mostly, he will “taste” it, suck off the dressing, take it out and hand it right back. But every once in awhile, he will eat it and ask for more. One of these days he will be a salad eater!!

Serve Them as Snacks

Sometimes I find that if my son is hungry enough, he will eat anything. He is more apt to eat his vegetables when he doesn’t see other food first. Getting him to eat his vegetables during dinner can be a bit of a chore once he’s seen the chicken, or pasta, or whatever it is I made. Quite often I will serve my son vegetables for an afternoon snack, or when I’m preparing dinner. This keeps him out of trouble and then I know he’s getting a healthy snacks.

“Hide” Them with Other Foods

My son is more apt to eat a pea when it’s mixed in with a bite of macaroni or placed in the middle of his sandwich. Here are some of my favorite things to do:

  1. Serve up a smoothie with fruit and veggies! My husband and I usually make smoothies for breakfast, so I take some and pour it into Little Green Pouches.  Gavin will drink a smoothie for a snack later in the day, or I throw them in the freezer for another time.
  2. Put them in a sandwich. Often I will put some spinach in the middle of a cheese quesadilla or a grilled cheese sandwich. My Gavin loves these!!
  3. Serve them up with noodles or in a casserole.  Recently I made Sausage Spinach Pasta for dinner. Before adding all the spices, I put some aside in a bowl for Gavin. He ate up everything….even the spinach! The whole time he was eating all I heard was him saying, “Mmmmmm!  Mmmmm!”
  4. Offer the veggies with a dip.  I have to say, this one was my last resort. But one day I was so tired of it taking one whole hour to get Gavin to eat his lunch.  And about 50 minutes of that was just trying to get him to eat his veggies. Every day was a battle with more vegetables on the floor than in his mouth. So finally I put some dip on my plate, dabbed a green bean in and gave it to Gavin. Thankfully, he ate the rest of his veggies without a problem
  5. Mix with Mashed Potatoes. My son does not like broccoli. He’ll eat it if pureed with sweet potatoes, but he will not eat them alone. I found that if I am serving steamed broccoli with dinner, he will eat them if they are with a bite of mashed potatoes. Loaded mashed potatoes makes them all the better!

What tips do you have to get your child to eat vegetables? I would love to hear about them!

French Bread Pizza

image

Friday nights are typically Pizza Nights at our house, but every once in awhile I get lazy (or have a limited amount of time) and don’t want to make the crust. So I change it up and make Pizza Bread instead. We recently had one of those nights.

I love buying my french bread from Walmart because they sell some seasoned french bread. Ever had it? You definitely want to try it! My favorite is the Garlic Parmesan. However, this time they were sold out and I settled for the “Everything” one instead. It was a little on the salty side, but it was still good. I just love the added flavor it gives to the pizza bread.

image

I also had some homemade tomato juice in the freezer that I used to make a fresh pizza sauce. It sure beats store bought any day! I’m thinking that next time I make a French Bread Pizza that I will assemble a few more for the freezer. Then we’ll really have some easy cooking nights on a busy day!

French Bread Pizza

1 16 oz loaf French Bread

1 jar pizza sauce

3 cups mozzarella sauce

Toppings of your choice

Directions

Slice the french bread down the middle lengthwise to make two halves. Layer with sauce, cheese and desired toppings.

Bake at 400 degrees for 10-12 minutes, or until cheese is melted and bread is lightly toasted.

Tip #6:  Get the Swagbucks App on your Smartphone

sbiphone

If you have an iPhone or Android, you can install the Swagbucks SBTV App for Free! If you’re paying for a Smartphone, you may as well let it work for you a little bit. The iPhone app has a lot more to offer as far as videos go…but the Android will still earn you Swagbucks just the same.

With the SBTV app you can watch videos to earn Swagbucks. Every five videos is worth two Swagbucks. The great thing about this app is that videos automatically play the next one without you doing a single thing! You can earn a maximum of 50 Swagbucks a day through this app.

If this is the ONLY thing you do with Swagbucks each day, you can easily earn 1,500 a month (or $15 in gift cards). Not bad, right?

Semi-Homemade Mango Peach Yogurt

image

Today I thought I’d take a break sharing Swagbucks Tips to share a tasty recipe instead!

Awhile back I posted a recipe for Blueberry Yogurt that you can make for your baby or toddler! The process is so quick and easy and I love that I can control how much sugar is going into what I feed my child.

A couple weeks ago, someone asked if mango could be used. If so, would it still need to be heated over the stove for a few minutes like the blueberries? I thought I would try this myself. I only had one mango on hand, and it wasn’t going to be quite enough for a whole batch, so I added a couple peaches as well.

The result? Seriously delicious yogurt that you just can’t buy at the store! It’s so delicous you’re going to want to keep some for yourself.

Mango-Peach Yogurt

1 32 oz Tub of Plain Yogurrt

1 fresh, really ripe mango

2 ripe peaches

1-2 tblsp honey (for babies over 1 year old) or sugar

Directions

  1. Peel the mango and peaches. In a blender or food processor, blend well until there are no more chunks.
  2. In a large bowl, mix fruit mixture with yogurt. Mix in honey or sugar.
  3. Pour what you can of the yogurt back into the tub it came in, or into whatever containers you’d like! I put some of the yogurt into Food Pouches for my son to use and even froze some in little cups.

How to Earn Swagbucks for Money: Tip 5

This week I’m sharing tips on how you can earn Swagbucks to help you earn money and gift cards without leaving your home. If you missed the first post, you can check it out here!

Tip #5: Complete Special Offers

If you go to “Discover” and click “Special Offers” you’ll be brought to a page with a few more tabs that each have different offers you can complete. Most of these offers require you signing up for something (like Hulu, or FreeCreditReport).

My favorite tab is the “RadiumOne” tab. Scroll through it and look for the tasks that offer 1 or 2 Swagbucks for watching a video or reading an article. Most of these require that you stay on the page for at least 30 seconds. Sometimes you may have to click to a second page.

Some special offers are also available right on the Swagbucks Homepage. Here are the ones I usually do:

1.  Look for the picture of a guy sitting with a laptop in front of him (typically in the first row). Click this and a video will pop up. You will earn 2 Swagbucks for each video. These videos are usually limited each day, but it’s an easy way to earn Swagbucks.

2.  Look for the Encrave picture, usually in the second row of the homepage!

sw encrave

As the picture says above, you can earn easy SwagBucks when you watch or “read” articles. These activites will usually be anywhere between 2 -4 Swagbucks and can add up really quickly!

How to Earn Swagbucks: Tip 4

swagbucks2

This week I’m sharing tips on how you can earn Swagbucks to help you earn money and gift cards without leaving your home. If you missed the first post, you can check it out here!

Tip 4: Watch Videos

sb videoFor anyone that has ever been to my house, you will almost always see a laptop sitting on my kitchen counter with some sort of video playing on it. As I go about doing my work in the kitchen, you’ll see me turning to the computer to take a second to click to the next video. For every 10 videos watched you will earn 3 Swagbucks.

Some would say that “watching” the videos takes a lot of time. For me it’s just become routine. I don’t typically sit in front of the computer watching them (although sometimes videos are running as I do other work on the computer….like writing this post). The best thing about Swagbucks is you can earn as much or as little as you want.

Stay tuned as I continue to share other ways you can earn Swagbucks!

How to Earn Swagbucks for Money: Tips 1, 2, and 3

swagbucks2

Last week I shared with you Why I Love Swagbucks. Earning money and gift cards from Swagbucks has really helped my family stretch our “gift” budget, as well as providing extra date nights. This week I’ll be sharing with you ways you can easily earn Swagbucks.

Tip 1:  Use Swagbucks to do all your Internet searches

While you don’t earn Swagbucks for every search, you will eventually earn Swagbucks. Typically, you’ll earn anywhere from 6 to 12 Swagbucks at a time. There are times when you may earn 15, 20 or even 49 (I think that’s the highest I have received). I usually earn an average of 20 Swagbucks through searches each day. You will know that you’ve earned Swagbucks because you will get something like this…

Tip 2:  Answer the Daily Poll

The Daily Poll is worth 1 Swagbuck, but they add up over the course of time!

Tip 3:  Do the NOSO

swagbucks noso

Under the “Discover” tab you may click on NOSO. This will lead you to a variety of “opportunities”. Usually I just skip through them all, and at the end you will receive 2 Swagbucks.
